Event Management Essentials Seminar Exceeded Expectations
Amman, October 2006. The Event Management Essentials, a 2-day
seminar aimed at enhancing professional development in the fast
growing events industry in Jordan, attracted over 100 industry
practitioners and professionals at Zara Expo Amman on 17 and 18
October 2006. The seminar was co-organised by Zara Expo and
Events UnLimited.
“We did not except that many delegates to attend the seminar
from all walks of the industry”, said Barbara Rowell, Director
of Zara Expo. “Delegates attending the seminar represented a
broad spectrum of the events industry including event producers
and organizers, sports clubs, corporate clients, diplomatic
missions, cultural organizations, service providers, and
schools”, added Rowell.
“The Event Management Essentials seminar addressed important
issues related to event planning, event coordination, event
marketing and sponsorship, event technology, event insurance and
risk management, creativity for events, human resource and
career development and other important topics”, said Samar
Shawareb Ashqar of Events UnLimited.
Twenty one speakers and panel members shared their experiences
from around the world, including the US and Australia, with
attendees in interactive panel discussions that highlighted
several case studies and best practices in the industry. Among
the speakers were Bill Knight instructor of Event Management at
George Washington University, Helen Mantellato of the Sydney
Convention Exhibition Center, Alex McNabb, Group Account
Director of Spot On Public Relations, Abdul Ghani Tabbalat,
Secretary General of the Jordan Olympic Committee, David
Williams, consultant for HRH Prince Feisal al Hussein, Amer
Tabbah, Managing Director of SOFEX, and other professional
speakers.
H.E. Mr. Munir Nassar, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities,
highlighted the importance of the events industry, as a
component of MICE tourism, in attracting high-yield tourism into
the country. He confirmed that Jordan continues to bid for major
events such as world congresses and sporting championships to
attract international visitors to the country. His Excellency
added that by working together, the industry continues to
improve the quality and standards of services, integral to
having both local and international events succeed.
Case studies on events and venues such as the World Triathlon
Championships, the Distant Heat event, the Sydney Convention and
Exhibition Centre, rock concerts and Vision 2005 highlighted
various aspects of each topic, providing opportunity for the
delegates to discuss best local and international practices, and
highlighted areas for future workshops.
The Seminar was sponsored by the Jordan Tourism Board, Karma
House for Travel and Tourism, Grand Hyatt Amman and the Jordan
Inbound Tour Operators Association.
