Jordan’s Second Barista Championship To Be Held During Ihf2006

Amman, 30 June 2006. Jordan’s second Illy & Fabri Barista Championship will be held during the 6th International Hospitality Forum (IHF 2006) from 12 to 14 September at Zara Expo Amman. The competition is organised by Albina & Hanna, the Jordanian distributor of Illycaffé and United Import & Export Company, the distributors of Fabri - flavours. The Barista Championship aims to raise the standard of baristas in Jordan by improving their skills and creating greater awareness of the world of coffee with regard to the culture of the product and service quality.

IHF 2006, Jordan’s premier event for the hospitality and food & beverage industry will showcase the latest in food and hospitality products and will feature several vibrant events that bring together all those concerned in developing the hospitality industry in Jordan and the region. In addition to the 2nd Barista Championship, IHF will feature 13 culinary competitions, a Bartenders’ competition, a Table Setting competition, a design & décor contest as well as conferences, seminars and workshops. IHF 2006 is jointly organised by Events UnLimited of Jordan and Hospitality Services of Lebanon.

Each participant in the Illy & Fabri Barista Championship is asked to prepare three coffees: an Espresso, a Cappuccino and a coffee of the barista’s own creation. Evaluation criteria range from preparation techniques to taste, presentation, aroma, timing and other factors.

The first Barista Championship held in Jordan took place at IHF 2005. 11 top baristas from hotels, restaurants and coffee and pastry shops were evaluated by a team of expert judges. The winner of the title Jordan Barista Champion of 2005 was from Mrs. Filelds, while the 2nd place winner was from Wild Jordan Café and the third from Prime Megastore.
